Avaluna Co.
Tell us about yourself!
I’ve always loved creating jewelry that makes people feel good and beautiful. I started out with beading and kept progressing to soldering and so on. A total of 13yrs. But over the last couple years I’ve really focussed on honing in my silversmith skills. I’ve self taught myself through many hours of research and YouTube!
What are your favorite materials right now?
Hands down Koa wood, turquoise and opals!
When did you decide to become an artist?
Hehe I wanna say since I was a kid! Always drawing, painting and beading.
The creativity gene runs strong in the family.
Were you encouraged to follow your dreams and create for a living?
Yes, my husband and family are my biggest supporters. Always encouraging me to take it to the next level. Every time I would feel like my work wasn’t good enough they were right there to help me. Also some incredible other artist that have helped me along the way.
What about your medium makes you keep going back? What makes you stick with it?
Since I was a young child I’ve loved nature and creation.
Especially Hawaii and its beauty. It has a part of my heart.
I believe it to be absolutely incredible that the Turquoise and opals I use come naturally out of the earth. I have found a love for Hawaiian Koa wood too. Working with my husband to hand pick, stabilized and shape our own Koa cabochon. It's a really incredible process.
I feel honored to be able to take these beautiful things and create jewelry that can last generations.
Is there something that the world should know about you and/or the work that you do?
I put so my love, time and energy into everything I create. I’m grateful to be able to do what I do. I get to work with my hubby and our frenchie Vinny the best shop dog ever.
What’s your biggest challenge as a maker?
Staying focussed. Im a bit of a squirrel hehe. I have to set a schedule take away distractions and get in the zone!
What’s on your current music rotation while creating?
Ohh my style is super eclectic! Sade, Neil Young, Stevie Nicks. I have a station called Hipster cocktail party.
