Venus Sunrise
In Roman mythology, Venus was the goddess of love and beauty which fit into how I want anyone who wears my pieces to feel. As well as a fascination with space and Venus being my favorite planet- for it is the brightest object in the sky next to the sun and moon. Adding the unmatched beauty & peace of a morning sunrise, there is nothing quite like it, and so, Venus Sunrise stuck.
How did you start Venus Sunrise?Venus Sunrise came to fruition shortly after I became a first time mama. I had worked in the floral industry as a designer for about 5 years prior to becoming a stay at home mom. I soon realized I needed an outlet to ignite my creativity again. I stumbled upon the polymer clay community, & instantly fell in love with the medium- I then perfected my craft for about a year before I decided to fully go for it & thus Venus Sunrise blossomed!
What are your favorite materials right now? With clay being the main material I work with. Im loving coming up with different color combinations with the clay. A fun fact about Venus sunrise is that all of our hues are custom mixed by hand.
When did you decide to become a designer/artist?For as long as I can remember I’ve always been creating. From Ceramics, to painting, makeup artistry & floral designing- I’m so passionate about creating with my hands and pushing the limits of my creativity with any medium I work with.
Yes! I don’t think I would be where I am creatively without the ongoing support of the people around me. From family in my early days of creating, to where I am now- I’ve always had a corner of people supporting my every move, and for that, I am so grateful.
Is there a single purpose that keeps you focused?Creating for me is almost like a therapy- some of my best designs come from when I just let my hands & mind flow freely.
What about your medium makes you keep going back? What makes you stick with it?Polymer clay is such a fun material to work with. From color customization, to the shapes one can create- the possibilities are endless. As each of my pieces are one of a kind. I can re-create the same design but the effect of clay will always mean no two pieces will ever really be the exact same.
Is there something that the world should know about you and/or the work that you do?If there is one word I could use to describe myself, it would be passionate. With everything I do and create, I do it with passion and love. My main mission for Venus Sunrise is to create pieces with lasting quality that effortlessly make a statement.
What’s your biggest challenge as a maker? The biggest challenge for me being a creative/maker has to be when a creative block hits. Being in my own head sometimes definitely holds me back some days from creating & truly letting my mind rest for ideas to flow.
What’s on your current music rotation while creating? To name a few when I am not listening to podcasts, I’m usually jammin’ to alt J, Leon bridges, or Fleetwood Mac!
