from Susanna:
'Ōhi’a Lehua
With its scarlet red or golden yellow pompom blooms, buzzing with honey bees and native birds the 'Ōhi'a lehua tree is perhaps the most stunning tree of the upper Hawaiian forests.
Along with its beauty, this native endemic tree also serves as a symbol of resilient love and strength in Hawaiian culture. Local conservationist endear it as it is essential to the existence of many native and now endangered birds.
As Upcountry homes, farms, and forests are being rebuilt the 'Ōhi'a could not only serve as a symbol of resilience love, and strength... it is also a building block to a future more sustainable ecosystem.
